I love reading, it's a huge passion of mine and I can always be found curled up in a corner for hours reading. I have always made time for it, and see it as an important part of my week.I wanted to share a few books that I have been inspired by, enjoyed and relished over the past 6 months or so.Read More
Last night I went to my first Women's New Moon Circle at Love and Light Shala Studio, and it inspired me to write this post this morning.I get a lot anxiety about entering a space of people I don't know, immediately feeling self conscious, so try to avoid putting myself in that place.I saw the post on Instagram about the New Moon event at The Shala on a day when I felt breathless, my ears felt they were underwater and I struggled to speak - classic Anxiety joining me for the weekend!Read More
My dad made our corner shower unit, buying what we needed from various DIY stores and raising the floor. We chose gold taps and shower head to finish it off. After plaster boarding and plastering, we chose white metro tiles with dark grey grout for the majority of the bathroom walls, and Moroccan style tiles for the shower area.Me and my other half were actually in Japan throughout the major renovation of this room, we booked in the tiler and then my Dad did the plumbing whilst we didn't need to use the bathroom. It was great as we left the room with bare bricks and crumbling plaster and dusty baths, and came back to a wonderful fresh bathroom on our return!!The boiler is in the corner of the bathroom, we placed a trailing devil's ivy plant on top for now but will build around it eventually.Read More
Devil's Ivy (Epipremnum aureum) is one of my all time favourite plants. It is so easy to grow, and creates such a gorgeous addition to any room with its trailing vines. I have a number of Devil's Ivy around the house, and have started to propagate them. I thought I would write a post on how to do this as it is so easy. Devil's Ivy is a good plant to begin propagating with if your new to the process!Read More
As the title says - I have opened an online shop! Selling my handmade Macramé Plant Hangers and hope to sell more crafts that I make in the future.I taught myself how to macramé one day when not feeling too well, and I have now been making them as a hobby for a while. One of my friends asked me to sell them at a Christmas fayre at the school she teaches at, so I began making them in bulk. I was encouraged by other friends to sell them on Etsy, so I thought 'why not' and so 'The Fringe Shop' was born!Read More
We were lucky to have upstairs completely liveable when moving in, so this is where we stored all of our belongings when we moved in and the mess was unravelling downstairs! We just wanted to update upstairs to our taste, which slowly developed really whilst the major renovating was taking place below.Read More
This year Christmas has to be on a budget, but I find myself actually having more fun crafting as opposed to buying. All my loved ones are receiving homemade gifts, and I am really enjoying spending the time making something for them that I think they will like and enjoy. No hustle and bustle or endless online scrolling for the perfect gift.I was going to do a bit of a DIY gift guide, but since everyone who is receiving my gifts read my blog I don't want to spoil the surprises!Instead I thought I would share how I make my home festive, and DIY crafts you can make.Read More
As I play around with photography more and more, I have started to see things around me in a new light. I try to find an angle or composition that you wouldn't normally take notice of. There is beauty all around us, all of the time, we just need to discover it.Read More
The kitchen I would say has gone through the most change of all the rooms. It looks like a completely different space to the one we first moved into. It was also one of the last projects, and one we still need to do a few bits on, such as the skirting. Our kitchen was an L shape with a utility room at the back, which we decided to join up as one larger kitchen. We did this in stages, so that we always had an area to cook (sensible advice parents!).Read More
We pretty much threw ourselves into doing up the dining room alongside the living room. We stripped the many many layers of wallpaper, almost hearing the walls sigh with relief at being able to breathe again! We were faced with more crumbling plaster, but just on the one wall which we actually decided to expose the bricks on.Read More
Following my travel interiors post, I thought I would follow it up with exactly how we went about our renovation along with some before and after shots - though the 'before' photos are actually mid-renovation because I grabbed the chisel and steamer long before I thought to grab the camera!Within an hour of getting the keys and toasting to our new abode, we starting stripping the wallpaper in the living room. We luckily had a week left in our rented flat, so we could get started on the messy work before all our possessions moved in.Read More
As we pass into Autumn/Winter, I love finding new crafts to learn and my latest is weaving with a loom.A loom is the structure that you will make your weave from, there are numerous different types of looms but to start simple, I am using a lap loom. I got my loom as a gift from a friend, but know they are either available to buy or I have seen tutorials to make your own online from an old photo frame.Read More
Something a little different today, but it struck me when walking through our house how much we are inspired by the places we visit, near or far, and incorporate so many ideas into our home. We like the pieces in our home to have a story and spark memories of the places we have discovered on our travels.
Our house was a full renovation project, with my dad being a combined builder/plumber/electrician and Dave's dad being our bespoke quirky carpenter. I loved learning and picking up DIY skills along the way. I may do a detailed renovation post one day, let me know if that's something you would like to read! When we are home with dreams of our next adventure, we love being able to sit content in our own little world that we made around us.
So without further ado, this is a tour of some of the corners of our home!Read More
